So much for being productive

So my morning started off pretty well today. Got Maya off to school on the bus, read some stories with Luke, straightened the kitchen, made myself go to the gym and had a really good workout. When I got home, I figured that I would mow the lawn and take care of the yard while I was already dirty and sweaty from working out. That was going fine. I had a white tank top on that got all dirty from emptying the grass from the mower bag. I turned on the sprinklers and went in to get Luke some lunch. So far, so good. I'm still in a dirty tank top and a pair of shorts, bare feet - I went out and turned off the sprinkler in my back yard. I was out of the house for maybe 3 seconds. When I turned around, Luke had closed the door and managed to deadbolt it. I have no keys, no cell phone, not even shoes on me! I'm talking/yelling to Luke through the back door trying to talk him through unlocking it. I do this for about 10 minutes, getting angry and frustrated at my 2-year-old for doing this to me - AGAIN! (He locked me out last summer as well - I usually take my keys out with me when Luke's in the house, but like I said, I was out the door for 3 seconds and he was supposedly busy eating lunch!!) I went to check if I had left the front door unlocked. Of course it was deadbolted as well. After about 15-20 minutes of trying to get Luke to unlock a door, I give up and walk up the street, bare foot, in a dirty white "wifebeater" tanktop and shorts, to the Centex offices (the people who built my home) and ask our guy Roger if I can use his phone to call my husband, who is at work on call at the hospital. After letting Matt know what was going on, knowing it was a slim chance that he would actually be able to leave and come unlock the door for me (all the while my 2-year-old Luke is just hanging out in the house all by himself), Roger went back to the house with me to see if there was anyway we could get in. It took another 10 minutes to even get Luke to come to a door. What finally did it was Roger's voice. Luke, hearing a man's voice, thought it was Daddy and came running (mommy's voice obviously wasn't worth running to). We talked him through opening the door again, and magically it worked and the door finally opened! I thanked Roger and then called Matt to let him know everything turned out fine. Surprisingly, Matt had gotten permission from his staff to come and help. He was actually on his way home. He, of course, had to turn around and get back to work, but the fact that he had actually been on his way really surprised me.
The most embarassing part? - A toss up between walking around in dirty clothes and bare feet, and the fact that this is the second time Luke has done this to me! I think we'll be investing in a hide-a-key soon.

Love the blot Jen. Luke is so big. I havent' seen him since he was tiny. Nathan doesn't even remember them now. How sad. I wish we could see you in Hawaii, but you are going to love it of course. We are so sad to be going home in a couple of weeks. We are addicted now too.

That does NOT sound like a fun day! Sounds like you handled it pretty well, under the circumstances. I would have called 911 or something, but I guess you couldn't with no phone and all!
By the way, welcome to the blog world! Check mine out if you have a minute...and I am so jealous about Hawaii. That is awesome!!

Ha ha ha - that's my boy! He'll keep you on your toes! Good thing Maya is a little angel to balance things out. :) I miss you!! Who needs Hawaii - take the family to Boston to come see me!

So, if you're wearing a white tank top, wouldn't that be a husband beater? by the way, this is soooo brooke writing this.

Hey--welcome to the blog world. Don't be surprised if you get some random message from Aubrey. (She'll be the voice behind my typing, of course.) She saw Maya and said, "She looks totally different." I guess that's what happens when you're 6 instead of 4.
The thing that saves me from getting locked out is my garage. We have the code thing on the outside to open it--makes it nice when I go running not to have to bring keys. But I guess the kids could always lock the door from the garage . . .

Don't you have some friends from the Seneca ward (or your new one of course) that you can leave a spare with :)

Although the fingerprint one would be super handy and cool.

OhMIGOSH! That is so crazy. I've never had that happen, but it makes me think. What in the world was Luke doing in there the whole time you were finding help? What a silly! I'm glad things worked out ok for you. Fun to read your blog! :)
