Potty Training is exhausting . . .

Today was our first official day of potty training with Luke. We tried a little yesterday, but it was mostly just to introduce him to the whole thing. He didn't like sitting on the toilet and I didn't want to fight him every few minutes these first few days to get him on it, so we went to the store today and he picked out a training potty (Go Diego Go potty) and some thick underwear that absorbs a lot and saves my carpet. He's doing pretty well. He likes to sit on his potty and he loves stickers so that's his reward when he's successful. Maya loves to help. She even made Luke a chart to put his stickers on and asks him regularly if he needs to use the potty. We've finally had a few successes this evening.

During my piano lessons today, Matt took over. I came up afterward to find them both asleep on the floor. Looks like this whole process has taken a lot out of them both.

I placed an open diaper under Luke so if he did have an accident, my floor was safe.

It's been a few years since I've done this, and I'm sure that boys are different than girls - so any suggestions or things that have worked for you are more than welcome. Who knows - one of you may have the secret I need to make this whole experience a lot less stressful.

Our little ballerina

I'm a little slow on the uptake. I'm sitting here trying to think of something to blog. I know stuff has been going on, but my brain wasn't coming up with anything. Then (after seeing another friend blog about it) I remembered Maya had a dance recital at the end of May. She's been taking a tap/ballet class taught by a friend of ours in the ward. I was afraid that Maya wasn't going to remember the choreography (the dance moves for those of you who don't know the lingo and are too afraid to ask) because she had missed the last 2 weeks of rehearsals because we were in Hawaii. She actually did really well (thanks to the teacher being in the back of the room for the girls to watch. Here's a few pics.

The hat's kept falling off and the girls kept stopping to pick them up. It was so fun to watch. For the second tap number they just had the girls put their hats on the ground.

I was videotaping all this and it's a very shaky recording because I was laughing at all the cuteness!

Happy Father's Day!

Just posting a virtual shout out to all the father's out there - especially my husband and my own dad! Happy Father's Day! First, to my dad - I love you and have so many great memories of being silly and giggling with my daddy. Most importantly, I always felt so safe and loved by you - I still do, and so do my Maya and Luke! Next, to my husband - who is as good a father as can be. Our children ADORE you! As soon as you walk through the door, I no longer matter because daddy is home and will play "ding dong ding dong", build forts, and just be plain silly! You are an amazing father (more than just being silly - you teach and explain) and I am amazed every day that I get to be married to a man as amazing as you.

I moved the slideshow

To all who still want to admire my our fantastic slideshow of our trip to Hawaii - I moved it to the bottom of the page. I can't figure out how to "post it", so it either has to be up top or on the bottom. I think most of you have seen it so it's been moved to the bottom for anyone who still wants to enjoy. Hawaii was a blast.
