Couldn't be more proud...?

I'm a very lucky woman. I have an amazing husband who treats me with so much love and respect. Our kids see this everyday and will hopefully grow up to expect, have and do the same. I feel very blessed to have such an amazing marriage and I thank my Heavenly Father for it everyday. I have friends who even tease Matt and I a little with how lovey dovey we are.
But on the same end of all of that, we like to joke and have fun with each other. We have from the very beginning. Back when we first met we'd have ice/water fights and Matt even "Bobby Boushay"ed me in a snowball fight (Waterboy reference).
One thing that takes the cake, pun intended, was at our wedding. The tradition of the bride and groom cutting the cake and feeding each other the first piece. As Matt was preparing to delicately feed me the cake, all the sudden the whole plate was in my face! (Matt credits this to my sister Becky - my whole family was encouraging him, but when Becky said something along the lines of not worrying about the dress, he went for it)
The point of this post??
Matt and Luke and I were sitting down to snuggle on the couch and for some reason this made Luke think and say out loud. "When I grow up and get married, I'm gonna smash the cake like you dad."
Wait....what? Of all the things to learn from dad, that's what you choose? I honestly thought what Matt did to me was hilarious (and luckily the cake had fondant icing so it didn't make a huge mess), but I replied, as long as the girl is like Mommy she won't mind. He and Maya do love to watch that part of our wedding video, so it will not be forgotten. But, I figure we got about 20 years for him to grow and realize this may not be the best idea.

Ha!

The quote of the day today goes to my 5 year-old Luke. He had a bloody nose and this is what he said: "I know why my nose started bleeding this time. It's because I picked my nose too far."

Important Qualities

Matt and I were sitting and finishing dinner tonight. Luke and Seth were off running around so we took a moment to have a conversation with Maya. Matt asked her if she thought any boys in her class were cute. She blushes and says no. Matt says he'd like it if she didn't think boys were cute for 10 more years. I reassure her that it's okay if she likes boys now. Matt and I both agree that she's not allowed to kiss a boy for 10 more years. This is all said very light heartedly.
So I change the subject to old friends back in San Antonio. I ask Maya if she misses her friend Kola. She does. She says that he's a good wrestler. Matt says, "That's an important quality in a man. . . to be a good wrestler. That's why mommy fell in love with me; cuz I'm good at wrestling." He pauses and then asks Maya if she thinks that's true. He asks her silly questions like these often. She usually looks to me for a response but I was focused on my biscuit. She's not sure if Matt is being silly or not. She explains this to us and then says, "I don't know if you're trying to trick me. I don't see you and mommy wrestle." And then she's laughing and joking very innocently and says, "But maybe you and mommy wrestle secretly after me and Luke and Seth are in bed!"
All Matt and I can do is laugh and that's all I'll say on the subject for now.

Luke's Words

On the way home from the gym today, Luke was complaining about a glob of chocolate on his seatbelt and pants. I think a chocolate chip from his granola bar had fallen onto it. I offered him a wipe to clean it up. His response:
"I don't want a wipe. I just want the stuff that hammers out tough stains."
Huh? I was confused at first. Then I realized he was quoting a commercial. No idea which laundry detergent he was talking about. I have noticed over the past few weeks that this is a talent with Luke. He remembers lyrics and quotes really well. He'll start singing songs from the radio and remember the words better than I do!

Little Memories - Luke

Last night I got Luke all tucked into bed and headed downstairs. As soon as I got downstairs I heard Luke shout from bed, "Mom! It's smoochy time! Mom! I wanna smooch you!" - That in and of itself cracked me up!
(Before you start thinking "gross", a smooch to Luke is a quick little peck on the lips, that's all)
So, he continues to shout this until I get upstairs and give him a "smooch". As I leave the room, he very sillily (I know it's not a word) starts saying, "Mom, I smoocheded you. Tell Dad I smoocheded you, okay?"
That boy definitely makes me laugh. A few minutes later he came downstairs to see if I'd told Matt and to see if it had made him jealous. Funny boy!

Don't want to forget

Some of the things that come out of Luke's mouth just cracks us up. (Sometimes it cracks us up after having time to get over being frustrated with him)
Anywho, yesterday all three of my guys got haircuts. Matt cut Luke's hair. We use clippers. My little boys are not a fan of the clippers and all the vibration. Luke finally has stopped fighting and screaming and wiggling when we cut his hair.
Matt was using the clippers on the side of Luke's head when Luke said, "Dad, you're making me feel my brain."
****************
When Luke takes a nap, bedtime becomes a nightmare. He just won't go to bed. Yesterday was one of these days. We'd already sent him up to bed a handfull of times. We even took his blanket he likes to snuggle with away from him. In the past we've given it back to him once he was sound asleep. So last night after sneaking down again begging for his blanket we send him back up. On his way up the stairs he says/yells, "Give me my blanket when I'm asleep ok mom?!"
Two minutes later he's upstairs yelling down, "MOM! I'M ASLEEP! BRING ME MY BLANKET!"
He repeats this several times. I finally call up to him, "Sleeping people don't talk!"

Kids say the darndest things

We have guests in town this week. With Matt out of town Luke has been camping on the floor in my room; therefore not using his own bed. So instead of setting up an air mattress for my friends little 2-year-old I figured I'd carry Luke's toddler/crib-sized mattress downstairs for her to sleep on this week.
I asked Luke if that would be okay and his response was, "But then it will smell like girls!"
That boy cracks me up! I assured him it wouldn't because I would put clean sheets on his mattress. This answer eased his worries and he was happy to share.

Plain Old Good Day

Today was just a good day. Nothing spectacular or amazing happened. Kids still fought a little and whined a little. Seth still cried a little. But that's to be expected. I didn't say it was a perfect day. But it was a really appreciated good day.
To start off, Matt was able to have the day off thanks to the holiday. That just puts things off to a good start. I absolutely LOVE having my husband home every second I can get him. On a friend's recommendation we tried out a new pizza for lunch while out running a few "because we want to" errands. It was sooo good. The kids gave it two thumbs up as well. And they give out the little dough balls for kids to play with while we waited for food. Always a plus.
It was an absolutley beautiful day. Sunny and close to 70. No complaints about that at all on a mid-January day. I do not miss the snowy cold weather at all (only during the Christmas season). So after relaxing on the couch while Matt and Seth took a little catnap, we went out back and played catch and hit a few wiffle balls. I'm proud to say I hit another one completely over the house and into the street - no help from the roof rolling it over. Man it feels good when you connect with the ball like that. When we went inside, it turned out that Luke went and snuggled with Seth (in other words he woke Seth up from his nap). So we all went to the park - Maya on her bike, I jogged the scenic route and Matt pushed the boys. We played Frisbee til it was too dark and we all jogged back together with an all-out sprint down our caul-de-sac. It feels good to just let loose.
It's been on of those days when you don't have a million places to be. We were able to just be together as a family and ask "What do you want to do?" not "what to we have to get done?" It's been the type of day you appreciate when it comes along, when you can sit down at the end of the day relaxed and say "It was a good day."
Hopefully we won't have to wait to long for another.

Little Memories

Last night before heading to bed, Matt checked to make sure that Luke was in his bed. Luke was not in his bed. Instead, he had climbed into Seth's crib and the boys were all snuggled up in there with piles of blankets on top. I wish I could've taken a picture, but I really didn't want the flash to wake Seth up. We carefully pulled Luke out and tucked him into his own little bed. Luke is such a snuggler when it comes to going to sleep. He doesn't like to be alone. Apparently even sharing a room isn't enough. Seth looked pretty comfy too all snuggled into Luke's side. It was really cute.
(This blog is my version of a family journal. I don't want to forget these little moments, so I'm starting "Little Memories" which will be short posts of funny things said or moments I want to remember.)
